Meet the Author: Kelly Matczak
I’ve been writing since I was a small child. Writing became my first real form of communication—one that felt accessible, safe, and honest. It allowed me to express feelings I didn’t yet have the words or courage to speak out loud. I remember hiding handwritten notes in the couch cushions, just to see if anyone might find them and read them. In hindsight, a message in a bottle might have been more effective—but I wasn’t quite that savvy at six years old.
Writing gave me a way to share my perspective as a shy person—often with humor, curiosity, and insight. Over time, people began to assume I was an extrovert. I taught classes, held leadership roles, and spoke publicly. What they didn’t see was me crying from sheer anxiety during a college presentation, or the quiet battles happening behind the scenes.
Still, I knew that if I could get better at public speaking, I could share my gifts more fully—and maybe even do something meaningful for myself and for others. The journey wasn’t always graceful. It wasn’t all roses. But by God, it gave me a lot of material to laugh at.
This writing is part of that journey. I hope you find pieces of yourself in it. And I hope you enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed living—and learning—through it.
