All I need to do is create a website, right?

When I relaunched my consulting business, the first thing on my to-do list was getting my website together. I mean, that’s how people find you, right? But I quickly remembered something I’d seen time and again with my clients: having a website is just one piece of the puzzle. A beautiful, functional site won’t automatically have people lining up at your door. (I know—I wish it worked that way too.)

Many new entrepreneurs, creatives, and small business owners assume once they hit “publish” on their site, the magic will happen. But the truth is, building a sustainable, fulfilling business requires much more than a digital storefront.

The good news? The ones who do make it—who grow, evolve, and build businesses they love—tend to have a few key things in common. Whether they’re consultants, coaches, creatives, or service providers, here’s what I’ve seen work time and time again:

1. They Lean Into Their Strengths

Successful business owners know what they’re really good at—and they double down on it. Whether that’s being a big-picture visionary, a brilliant connector, or someone who’s carved out a killer niche, they don’t try to do everything. Instead, they bring their full energy to the work they love (and that lights them up). That’s when momentum starts to build.

2. They Learn to Let Go

This is where I see so many talented folks struggle. They want to climb the mountain, but they think they need to do it solo—with a backpack full of tasks they hate.

Here’s the thing: if you were hiking Mount Everest, would you go alone? (Please say no.) You’d get a guide, a team, and some serious support. It’s the same in business.

The people who try to “do it all” often burn out. The ones who learn to delegate—not just outsource, but really trust others—are the ones who scale. Yes, it’s hard to let go, especially for perfectionists. But trading the role of pack mule for that of a leader? That’s where real growth happens.

3. They Ask for Help

I’ll be honest—this one took me time to learn, too.

We often treat asking for help like a sign of weakness. But in reality, it’s a sign of emotional intelligence and self-awareness. The most successful people I’ve worked with? They collaborate. They bounce ideas off others. They hire coaches, consultants, and experts. They get input before making big decisions.

And the coolest part? Asking for help doesn’t just lighten your load—it gives others the chance to shine. That kind of trust builds strong teams and deeper partnerships.

4. They Keep Learning (Constantly)

After college, I was so done with learning. I couldn’t even look at a book without having flashbacks. But eventually, I realized something: some of the most successful people I knew didn’t have advanced degrees—but they were constantly learning. They read books. Took courses. Listened to podcasts and audiobooks. They were curious and hungry to evolve.

Once I embraced that mindset, things started to shift. Learning became exciting again—not a chore. And in a world that’s changing fast, being a lifelong learner is your secret weapon.

5. They Work Their Butts Off

No way around this one. Behind every “overnight success” is usually a lot of unsexy, behind-the-scenes hustle.

Yes, you can work smarter. Yes, you can have boundaries. But you’ll still need to put in the hours—especially in the beginning. The entrepreneurs I admire the most treat every opportunity as a chance to grow. They take the extra step. They show up even when it’s hard. And because they love what they do, it doesn’t always feel like work.

So, About That Website…

Yes, you do need a website. It’s your digital home base. But if you’re trying to build a business that actually supports your life—and not the other way around—you need more than a pretty homepage.

You need clarity on your strengths. The courage to ask for help. A willingness to delegate and learn. And a whole lot of tenacity.

That’s where I come in.

I work with passionate, values-driven entrepreneurs and creatives who want more than a good-looking business—they want one that feels aligned, sustainable, and theirs. Whether you’re just starting or pivoting into something new, I’d love to help you climb your own version of the mountain—with support, strategy, and a little fun along the way.
